What Is a REAL ID?
A REAL ID is a federal security credential on a driver's license or other identification cards. It reflects a minimum security standard and allows you to participate in certain activities, such as entering federal facilities.
What's Changing for Travelers in 2025?
Starting May 7, 2025, you’ll need a REAL ID to board a domestic flight in the United States.
Is Your ID REAL ID compliant?
Here are the IDs that are considered compliant according to Homeland Security:
- IDs With a REAL ID Star: Driver licenses or cards issued by a REAL ID compliant state with a compliant star marking will be accepted. You can find a list of compliant states here.
- Enhanced Driver's Licenses (EDL): EDLs issued by Washington, Michigan, Minnesota, New York, and Vermont are alternatives you can use.
- Your Passport: You can also use your passport if you don't have a REAL ID or EDL.
