How Roaming Almost Stole Christmas: A Behind-the-Scenes Look

Ever wonder what it's like to film a holiday commercial in the middle of October in sunny Los Angeles? Well, Airalo’s newest holiday campaign, called "How Roaming Almost Stole Christmas," starring Conan O'Brien as a tech-savvy Santa, turned one cozy suburban neighborhood into a frosty, festive wonderland.

Take a peek behind the scenes:

Lights, Camera… Holiday Magic

Call time started bright and early at 7 AM, where the team gathered in a quiet residential Los Angeles neighborhood. Enormous black tarps hung over the exterior windows to block the sun and create a cozy nighttime scene inside.

By mid-morning, the house had morphed into a Christmas fairytale, complete with faux-frosted glass. A peek beyond the windows, however, broke the spell. Stacks of boxes and blue-filtered set lights were kept there, out of sight of the cameras.

Back inside, ornaments, stockings, garlands, and piles of carefully wrapped presents covered nearly every inch of available space. At this point, we were all starting to forget it was a warm and sunny day outside.

Enter: Conan O'Brien (aka Santa Claus)

Donning a fake belly, Santa's trademark red suit, and a curly red beard, Conan entered the set and stepped right into character. No surprise, Conan also brought his signature quick wit with him, delivering one brilliant improvised line after another, leaving the crew struggling not to crack while watching the live feed from an adjacent room.

Bringing "How Roaming Almost Stole Christmas" to Life

The storyline? Classic holiday chaos with a technical twist. Santa enters, ready to deliver gifts, but suddenly, his phone dings with a notification showing he's racked up over $1,000,000 in roaming fees from his around-the-world journey.

Without data, he can't access his naughty and nice lists, so he starts packing up to leave. At the last second, an adorable, foul-mouthed little girl introduces him to Airalo (that's us!), a global eSIM provider that lets him stay connected without roaming charges.

Thanks to Airalo, Santa can now get back on his way with global data at his fingertips. Christmas is saved!
