Some countries require you to verify your identity in order to use a local SIM or eSIM. In these instances, you’ll be required to complete an electronic Know Your Customer (eKYC) verification process in order to purchase an eSIM.
What is eKYC?
eKYC is an identity authentication process where your identity is verified electronically. This requires uploading a document, such as a passport, and may also include providing an address.

For eSIMs that require identity verification, you will not be able to purchase the eSIM until your identity if verified. Instead of BUY, you will see VERIFY YOUR IDENTITY.
Who conducts the eKYC verification?
Airalo partners with a third-party service called Jumio for identity verification. You can learn more about how the verification process on the Jumio website.
How do I verify my identity to purchase the eSIM?
To verify your identity, go to the eSIM you'd like to purchase and do the following:
- Tap or click BUY NOW.
- Tap or click VERIFY YOUR IDENTITY
- Read the eKYC verification tips and prepare your documents and information.
- Tap or click START eKYC verification
- Add your address, if required, then tap or click CONTINUE
You’ll be directed to Jumio to complete your identity verification. Once you finish, you’ll need to wait for your documents to be verified.
How will I know if my documents are verified?
We’ll send notifications to let you know if your documents are verified. If you’re documents are accepted, you can continue with your purchase. If your documents are not accepted, you’ll need to retry the verification process.
